Botanical Floral Watercolour & Illustration Courses and Workshops

Single Class Workshop - S$138

Great for beginners and for those who wants to get a first-hand trial of our botanical watercolour courses with Lucinda Law. Enjoy a relaxing 2.5 hour class on Friday or Saturday in our studio and be drawn into the world of botanical watercolour art.  

Class schedule: Our classes are held on Friday and Saturday, 10:30am ­to 1:00pm.

Materials: All materials and tools will be provided for your first lesson, a materials list will also be given and you will be required to purchase them by your second lesson.

We also hold themed workshops for private groups and corporations that will enjoy an exclusive creative session with us in the studio or at a preferred venue.

These popular watercolour courses allows guests to draw and paint a variety of flora and foliage in every class on a continued learning basis. We have 4-classes and 8-classes courses that are designed for absolute beginners or art practitioners who are new to watercolour or want to develop their style.

You will be able to learn how to observe, sketch and paint a variety of flora and foliage through close guidance with step-by-step instructions and live demonstrations by Lucinda Law, a botanical artist who has received training in botanical illustration at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew, UK and was a arts/design lecturer with more than 14 years teaching experiences in institutions like Lasalle School of the Arts, Glasgow School of Arts and Temasek Polytechnic.

Come and get in the festive mood with our Christmas-themed botanical workshop on 25 November Saturday from 2.30pm to 5.30pm that is set in the enchanting garden terrace of Pollen Restaurant, where guests will enjoy the delightful ambience of the sunlight-basked, sub 20-degrees conservatory - unique to the Flower Dome of Gardens By The Bay. Hosted and conducted by botanical artist Lucinda Law at Within Studio, this exclusive three-hour botanical art workshop will be centred around the vibrant hues of red, orange and green of the season, and guests will draw and paint a mix of blooms and sprigs of botanical subjects to get us in the mood for a tropical Christmas in Singapore. 

Upon arrival at 2.30pm, Lucinda will first take you on a tour of the "Poinsettia Wishes" Christmas show at the Flower Dome to seek some inspiration. Returning to our ‘classroom’ at the beautiful Pollen terrace, she’ll show you how to illustrate and paint the exquisite botanical subjects using Faber-Castell's Watercolour pencils, Water brush and Artist PITT pen to create botanical art in mixed media. Guests are then treated to a choice of tea/coffee and a dessert after the workshop. They will also receive a complimentary Creative Studio range of 12 Watercolour pencils, Artist PITT pen, and the Water brush from Faber-Castell worth S$50, as well as a discount voucher to purchase Faber-Castell products at their stores in Singapore. 

This workshop is held in collaboration with Faber-Castell and conducted by Lucinda Law, a botanical watercolour artist (MAFA) and founder of Within Studio who is the first artist to be appointed the Art & Graphic Ambassador for Faber-Castell Singapore.

NEW: “ART, SCIENCE & BEAUTY OF NATURE” Plant Taxonomy & Art Course

Price: S$480 (includes two-day Course of Plant Taxonomy and Art led by botanist/ naturalist Bian Tan and botanical artist Lucinda Law, provision of all notes and art materials, light lunch on both days, field trips and transport to Singapore Botanic Gardens (this is a rain or shine event)

Specially crafted for nature lovers and botanical art enthusiasts, this two-day plant taxonomy-meets-art course on 9 and 10 December weekend is helmed by botanical artist Lucinda Law of Within Studio and botanist/naturalist Bian Tan who will take you on a full immersion of nature and delve into the world of plant taxonomy and botanical art. You’ll learn about our native plants at the Singapore Botanic Gardens, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and learn to identify them with Bian who is a trained botanist.

Lucinda, fresh from her intermediate botanical course at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew, UK, will teach participants how to study and draw the anatomy of plants and create classical botanical observational sketches and line art in pen. This powerful combination of art and science approach will enrich your experience of the botanical world and empower you to draw what you see and observe in nature in a meaningful way.

As South East Asia Programme Coordinator for Botanic Gardens Conservation International (www.bgci.org), Bian Tan assisted Southeast Asian botanical institutions with rare plant conservation, environmental education, and staff capacity building. As Living Collections Manager at the San Francisco Botanical Garden, he curated the living collections and pioneered the development of the South East Asian Cloud Forest collection through collaborations and joint expeditions with institutions in Southeast Asia. Bian spent nearly 20 years in the USA, and is currently based in Singapore, where he leads nature and heritage tours and teaches classes on botany, plant identification, and other nature-related topics.

Lucinda Law is a teacher, artist and writer of all botanical-related themes. She started nature-led creative studio Within and has conceptualised and created works for clients such as Mandai Park Holdings, Bentley, Ministry Of Foreign Affairs, GuoccoLand, Chanel, etc. She is the first artist to be appointed the Art & Graphic Ambassador for Faber-Castell Singapore in 2017 and has more than 14 years of experience as a teacher in arts, design and research writing fields and received training in botanical illustration at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew, UK. She attributes Bian Tan as one of her pivotal botanical mentors and is currently learning a new language – Botanical Latin. Her current botanical muse plant is Artocarpus altilis which she will study closely in Hawaii in December 2017. (www.lucindalaw.co)
