What to expect: Immerse yourself in flower therapy to awaken your creative senses at this new Flora Botanical illustrating and watercolour painting class. Learn to paint dainty flowers in the likes of children’s story books, vintage illustrated dictionary and botanical prints found in Natural History Museums to create your own prints and illustrated work. You’ll learn how to illustrate flora and foliage with pencil and ink as well as, watercolour mixing and prints study. We'll begin with a quick introduction to the botanist painter's choices of yellows and blues from Winsor & Newton that will produced the most natural colours as observed in nature.
Class Outline for the 4 classes:
1st : Intro to the watercolour. Type of paper, brushes, how to start. Learn basic technique, mixing and colour chart. We'll work with the most essential colours in botany colour chart of yellows, blues and green. Learn how to achieve shades of yellows. Learn also how to achieve white petals in watercolour. We'll work towards a completion of a flower painting. Flower choice: Chamomile.
2nd: As watercolour is all about mixing, understanding the proportion of water and paint, we'll deepen your understanding and experience with watercolour by mixing a variety of green from just yellow and blue. We'll also get to experiment with the tones of purples. Flower choice: Lavender.
3rd: We'll look into the shades of reds, pinks in this class. You'll have a chance to draw and paint those large voluminous flower petals and a chance to work on a new water colour techniques. Flower choice: Hibiscus.
4th: Here'll be able to combine the two techniques you'll learnt. You'll also have a chance to do observational drawings of foliage which is a big feature in nature and to accompany the flowers. Drawing and painting parts of plants such as the buds, branches and leaves are essential to botanical drawings. Flower choice: Roses
This is a popular class for an intimate class size for 6 people only. To encourage you to take the time out and practice with us, guests who have attended the first class can attend the subsequent classes at $45 per drop-in. You can also buy a package of 4 classes for $160 with a two-months validity-period (comes with a free postcard size 300gm watercolour block). This class is aimed at beginners.
What you’ll bring home: 1 postcard size botanical watercolour paintings. For guests who are attending for the first-time, you’ll get a starter-kit of 1 watercolour paint box containing at least 6 watercolours from Winsor & Newton and 1 brush.
